The topic of ‘online business models’ was researched by Professor Michael Rappa, director of the ‘Institute for Advanced Analytics’ at North Carolina State University. He wrote a paper titled ‘Business Models on the Web’ in which he explained that a business model is the method of doing business by which a company can sustain itself i.e. generate a revenue.
He listed 9 categories in his paper but the interesting point he made was that; ‘Internet business models continue to evolve’.
The few models below have proven to be successful with a number of online entrepreneurs and they do resemble to a large extent the 9 categories highlighted in Professor Michael Rappa’s paper.
1) Affiliate Marketing
Affiliate marketing is a very popular way to make money through your website or blogsite. You can recommend and sell someone else’s product(s) on your website. When your website visitor clicks on your affiliate link and buys the product – you’ll receive commission from the sale.
